School is tough for everyone, it’s the teachers and students that make it hard for them. What most kids don’t realize is that the teachers are there for them and that their coping skills are what keep them going through their schooling day. But how can a child be resilient?

Being resilient means that you are able to deal with stress and different types of challenges that come your way. If you were to look at some of the children that have been born with low levels of resilience, you would see them acting out and not really responding to certain events that happen to them. You may even see them falling apart when the pressure is put on them. So being resilient is more about how you deal with things. Resilience in school has to do with dealing with failure and getting back up after being down.

Failure can happen to anybody and to someone who are born with low levels of resilience they will have trouble dealing with it. Children are vulnerable to failure especially because of how the education system is set up today. When you fail in school you don’t just get an unsatisfactory grade; you also get bad marks that reflect on your self-image and this can affect you for the rest of your life. There are even some instances when a child is suspended from school. This sends a message that if you are not able to handle the stress you can’t deal with school. In this case how to be resilient in school comes into play.

Failure can come in many different forms and you may not even be aware of the kind of failure that your child is going through. Sometimes they may show signs of having a difficult time dealing with pressure. They may exhibit negative behavior. A child who is suffering from pressure at school may have difficulty in following directions and tasks. They may seem to be distracted and may be easily agitated.

Some children may lack the ability to accept failure and this is one way how to be resilient in school. They have to know that although they did not do a good job for the day they can still turn something good into a great accomplishment. If a child is able to build up their confidence from the success they will be better equipped to deal with disappointment.

The other thing that can make a difference in how resilient a child is the structure of the school that he or she is in. Some schools give extra support and encouragement to students who are having a hard time. Others have more severe penalties for students who are unable to follow instructions.

Find out how your child is doing in school. Is he or she getting great grades? Are they helping their classmates? Are their test scores improving? These things are important and should be monitored closely. If there is a problem it may be a good idea to talk with a teacher or principal about it.

Be sure that you do not put too much pressure on yourself. There is no need to become overconfident. Although you may be a great athlete or know someone who is trying extremely hard in school, you still need to find ways on how to be resilient in school. Kids tend to model themselves after their parents and this can affect how they are going to act and learn throughout their schooling years.
